Automotive Digital Marketing

Every month a new social network, portal or business networking website seems to be vying for my time and attention. As I scan the Internet for new ideas I have discovered websites that have great potential for personal branding and Internet marketing. I have to admit I can’t resist signing up and seeing how these sites operate and then index in Google.

If you have already signed up for the more popular sites like Facebook and LinkedIn you know that as part of the registration process you are invited to invite your friends to join you on the portal. This process seemed natural the first few times I created a profile, However, after the fourth registration process you start asking yourself how much patience do your friends have with these invites.

These sites seem to imply that a successful profile page is dependent on how many friends or connection you have; let’s call it their carrot. At what point do you stop being cute and your friends think you are an egotistical Internet junkie. Do you also guilt them into thinking that you are tracking them to see if you comply with all your requests?

After some testing, I not sure that the number of linked friends on your profile is as important as the amount of content you add in the form of blog posts or articles. Some portals allow you to create optimized content that Google seems to index rather quickly. Other sites do not offer blogging which then tips the scales to the side of getting more friends or associates invited to see your profile.

Personal Branding Portals

I have profiles on a number of websites that are defined to either brand my name or one of my services. If you don’t recognize some of these websites, check them out to see if you should setup a profile for yourself.

• LinkedIn
• Facebook
• BizNik
• HubPages
• Naymz
• FastCompany
• Spoke
• Blogspot
• Vox
• Ning
• Twitter
• EzineArticles
• Gather

The reason why I have created profiles and submitted content for over a dozen portals is that I’m not sure which ones are going to survive. Since many of these sites create a sub-domain based on your name, I wanted to lock in “brianpasch” on as many sites as I could.

This is a strategy that I would recommend for anyone is business whose name is synonymous with their brand or profession. People who have uncommon names have it easier than those with names that end in Smith, Jones or Lee. Even if you have a common name, the sooner you lock in your name profile and start promoting who you are the better.

Starting a Personal Branding Campaign

I am convinced that as the Internet brings the world closer, personal branding will become even more important. By sharing your expertise, strategies, thoughts and creative flare on numerous websites you will attract followers from each website. These local portal connections could develop into valuable business contacts in the future.

If you have not secured your “name” or your business name on the most effective portals for Internet marketing, I suggest that you make the time to make it a priority. On one website called Naymz.com you can also run a Google Adwords campaign on your name for a flat fee of $95 which is a bargain if you are active on the Internet.
